Massachusetts is another picturesque state that’s
situated in the New England region of America and borders the
Atlantic Ocean. The northeastern state is the seventh smallest
in land size and 15th largest when it comes to population as it
houses just over 6.5 million people. Most of them live in and
around the city of Boston, which acts as both the capital and
largest city. Other popular cities include Lowell, Cambridge,
Worcester, Plymouth, and Springfield.
Massachusetts has a very rich history as British
pilgrims landed in Plymouth in 1620 and settled in the area with
the local Native Americans. Years later the local residents
fought for independence from Britain in the American Revolution.
It then became the sixth state admitted into the Union in 1788.
The landscape is filled with forests, farms,
rivers, parks, lakes, trails, beaches, and small mountains.
There are quite a few historical and
natural sites to see along with the Boston Harbor Islands
National Recreation Area and Cape Cod National Seashore. Hikers
will love the Appalachian Trail, the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail,
the New England Scenic Trail, the Bay Circuit Trail, and the
Midstate Trail. Other popular outdoor activities include
yachting, sailing, whale watching, fishing, hunting, and skiing.
It’s easy driving to Massachusetts on the
interstate system and driving around the state will give you a
good chance to check out the wonderful scenery and sites. If
you’d like to fly in, the major airport is Boston’s Logan
International. There are also some smaller ones scattered
throughout the state for regional flights. In Boston, you can
get around by bus, subway, and ferry. You can travel to various
locations by commuter train as well.
The beautiful and diverse scenery the state has
to offer brings in a lot of visitors, as do the historical
sites, such as Boston, which is the home of the U.S.S.
Constitution and the Freedom Trail. In fact, Boston’s definitely
a world-class city that offers everything from arts and culture
to history and sports. There are numerous sites to see in this
city alone that would take a good few days to do.
If you want to check out where the pilgrims landed on American
shores, then head over to Plymouth, where the historical
Mayflower ship docked all those years ago. If you venture to the
Springfield Armory National Historic Site you’ll be able to get
a look at one of the largest collections of firearms in the
world.

Pioneer Valley where you’ll find the Dickinson Homestead. This
is where the famous poetess Emily Dickinson wrote most of her
poems. In Concord, you can visit the Minute Man National
Historical Park which takes you back in time to the famous
battles of the American Revolution. If you’re seeking some
quaint villages and rural life, one of the best places to go is
the Berkshires area in the western of the state. This region
features quite a few pretty villages as well as the Norman
Rockwell Museum, which is in Stockbridge.
Of course if you’d like to enjoy some time in
the sea and sand there are several excellent locations to head
to, such as Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Cape Cod, which
are full of classic and famous seaside resorts, towns and
architecture.
If you want to take in some major league sports action, Boston has
